Principles that drive us

FellowArt's mission is driven by three core principles:

Empowering Artists

In response to increasingly over-policed social platforms, we provide a space for artists to share their work without fear of censorship.

Bridging the Gap

Our platform aggregates artwork that cannot easily be found or acquired elsewhere and provides a space for artists and collectors to foster ongoing patronage.

Removing Financial Barriers

We make original artwork accessible through flexible pay schedules that help collectors grow their collections while ensuring artists receive fair compensation for their talents.

Jeff Lee

Jeff Lee’s portrait and figurative work moves beyond classic form using non-traditional color and lines while often blurring his subject’s gender, race, age and emotional expression. His recent work involves an elaborated process of applying and removing layers of mixed media resulting in unique depth and texture. Jeff divides his time between New York City and the North Fork of Long Island.

Patrick Mizumoto

Patrick Mizumoto is a visual artist living in Honolulu, Hawai'i. Influenced by a life lived by the ocean and his own personal experiences as a half Japanese half Italian queer man. His work predominantly includes male figure paintings, abstraction, and scenes from nature. These emotive figures focus on expressing themes of self-identity and the complex energy surrounding the pursuit of wholeness, both emotionally and physically. He hopes to capture moments of beauty both within our recognizable human experience as well as the indescribable abstract emotions experienced through inner conflict and peace. Patrick studied in a traditional atelier at the Los Angeles Academy of Figurative Art (LAAFA) where he was mentored by artist Sergio Sanchez. He learned to paint and draw from the teachings of the academy as well as from years of self-studying the old masters and contemporary artists alike. His work has been exhibited across the U.S.A., notably in Hawai’i at the Bishop Museum, Honolulu Museum of Art School, and the Hawai’i State Art Museum.

Hear from our artists and collectors

"As an interior designer, FellowArt is such a helpful tool to establish a connection between local artists and my clients.

Cal Nugent

Interior Designer & Art Collector

"FellowArt not only makes art ownership inclusive and meaningful, but fosters a community by spotlighting and amplifying diverse artists who deserve to be celebrated.

Gabe McClary

Law Student & Art Collector

"It’s been a challenge to find and keep up with artists who produce gay art. It’s really exciting that FellowArt will be a place where I can find that community with ease!

Daniel Ciminera

Art Collector

"I've been collecting art for a long time, and many of my friends are artists whose work is male or queer-centric. They often talk about how difficult it is to find collectors without formal representation or a space dedicated to this type of art, so I'm glad FellowArt can be that home for them.

Omar Montes

Art Collector & Gallery Enthusiast

"I'm just starting to build an art collection, and the ability to pay for pieces that I fall in love with over time will really help me grow my collection”

Connor Reilly

Frequently asked questions

For artists

#01 I want to list my work on FellowArt

Great! First you need to fill out our artist intake form. The form is super simple and only takes about a minute. Click here to fill out the form. Once we've reviewed, we'll reach out to you with next steps to get started.

#02 How does it work?

First, you upload your art. We ask you to provide information about your listed artworks (such as dimensions, materials, and an optional statement).

When you get a sale, it will contain information about how to get the artwork to the collector. In most cases, we will send you a shipping label and ask you to ship the artwork to the collector in the next few days. In some cases, collectors will want to visit you in the studio and pick up the piece themselves (but only if you are open to that as an option).

#03 How much does it cost?

FellowArt is free for artists! The platform makes money by taking a small cut on your sales.

#04 When do I get paid?

You get paid every time a buyer makes a payment towards one of your pieces they've bought. The amount they pay varies per artwork, based on the total price of the artwork and, if they opt to pay over time, the number of months they opt to split the cost over.

#05 What is FellowArt's cut on sales?

FellowArt's commission on sales is 20%. We handle sales tax, processing fees and shipping costs as a part of that commission as well. Our goal isn't to maximize profits at FellowArt, but to instead make the process of buying and selling art as easy as possible for both the artist and the collector.

#06 What are the artwork requirements?

They are quite simple:

The work must be your original, one-of-a-kind work, and depict the masculine form and/or gay centric themes.

The maximum height and width is 60” for each dimension.

The maximum weight is 25 lbs.

We do make some exceptions for special cases but we do enforce these requirements for the majority of our users.

#07 Can collectors buy outright on FellowArt?

Yes - and some do! But for many of our collectors, it's very helpful to break the purchase up into multiple payments.

#08 How long does it take to get the full payment for my work?

Your entire work will be paid off over the number of months the collector chooses for their payment plan, but in no event will that period be longer than 24 months.

#09 What if I don't want to - or can't - sell a piece that is requested?

You can simply reject the request. There isn't a penalty for doing so.

FellowArt also provides a messenger that artists and collectors can use to communicate during this process to work out any issues, and you can always ask us for help, too.

#10 I don't want to list the price of my artwork. What should I do?

Some artists are sensitive about listing the prices of their work online - and we understand that. We do allow artists to list their work anonymously (or pseudonymously), if that is their preference. A small percentage of our artists do take advantage of this feature. However, for the practicality of making a sale, we do ask that artists include a price for any listed work.

#11 Do I have to use my real name?

Nope! You can use your initials or a pseudonym, if you prefer. We find that artists get more sales if they use their real name (collectors love to get to know you!) but you're not required to do so.

#12 Do I have to have my studio available and/or do studio visits?

No - if you'd prefer to only ship your works (or perform quick handoffs at your studio), that's fine.

But, that said, we think that the studio visit is the best, purest form of FellowArt. Our collectors tend to have the best experience when they can spend a bit of time with the artist in the studio, discussing and exploring their work.

#13 Do I have to pack up the artwork for transportation?

Yes, we ask our artists to pack all artworks securely for shipping and/or collector pickup.

#14 How large should my artwork image files be?

We don't have a hard and fast rule, but “reasonably large” is great. We don't need super high-definition images, but we also can't accept bad, low resolution images.

(If that answer doesn't satisfy, or isn't precise enough for your taste, aim for 3,000 pixels on the “short” end of the image.)

#15 I have an idea to improve FellowArt!

Let us know! We've already changed plenty of things about FellowArt as a result of great feedback. Drop us a line at help@fellowart.com.

#16 This is a question?

Generic answer.

For collectors

#01 How does it work?

First, find a piece of art you love and start an installment plan to purchase it over time or pay for it in full upfront. During checkout, you can opt to have the piece shipped directly to your home, or you can pick up the piece directly from the artist's studio (for a very special studio visit experience) if the artist allows.

Once you have your piece, you will be billed every 30 days until you have paid off your piece completely.

#02 How much does it cost?

Pricing varies per artwork. You can own a piece for as little as $30/month. Our most expensive pieces are $500/month (and tend to be pretty big!).

#03 What kind of art do you have?

All of our artworks are original, hand-made, one of a kind pieces by emerging artists that focus on the masculine form or gay-centric themes.

Beyond that, we offer lot of variety in style, size, price, and medium.

#04 How expensive is the artwork?

Artwork prices range from $150 to $12,000, and monthly prices range from $30/month to $500/month.

#05 Who are your artists?

You can browse our artists here. You can also check out our instagram, where we highlight individual artists, artworks, and studio visits.

#06 What is a studio visit?

It's a special experience where you visit the artist in their studio and spend a bit of time with them. A typical studio visit involves discussing the artist's inspirations, influences, and process - perhaps over tea or a glass of wine - but the specifics of any given studio visit are as varied and unique as the artists themselves.

For collectors who are interested, we always encourage them to visit the artist's studio for a memorable, personal, and educational experience.

#07 Are all pieces shipped ready to be hung on a wall?

While some artists may ship their works in existing frames, we do not require works be "ready to hang" at this time.

Feel free to message the artist to see what they suggest in terms of frame styles to make your works pop!

#08 I live outside of the United States - will you ship it to me?

We're happy to help. Email us at help@fellowart.com.
