FellowArt artist profile picture of Jeffrey Heiman

Jeffrey Heiman

Jeffrey Heiman is primarily a painter who was raised on a small farm in Western New York and in the suburbs of Virginia Beach but now spends his time between Seattle, New York, and elsewhere. His artistic journey began in high school upon attending Governor's School for the Arts in Norfolk, Virginia but was inspired by the artists in his life, such as his paternal grandfather, who was a self-taught woodcarver, and his mother's ballerina best friend. He is interested in creating depictions of queer scenes of domesticity and desire, exploring intimacy through a veil of romanticism and vulnerability that portrays his personal relationships. He has been a Teaching Artist at Penland School of Craft, an Artist in Residence at the Vermont Studio Center, a Neddy Award Finalist in 2022, he received his BFA from SUNY Purchase and is currently an MFA student at Bard College.
